No Argument: Debaters Top Notch

The Walters State Debate Team won first place recently at the Northeast State Spring Sensation Tournament. Partners Morgan Bailey and Seth Van Horn led the team with a perfect 3-0 record during the competition. Students debating for the college this year include Bobby Ellis, Bailey Morgan, Seth Van Horn, Samantha Harvey, Jonathan Barrett, Matt Rose, Jonathan Brown, Sharon Phillips, Erika Price, Ashley Adams, Nathan Lowe, Brittany Long, and Randy Nasworthy.
Malcolm McAvoy, Head of the WSCC Department of Communications, said “I think the ability of our students to represent our college, community and state so well in this highly competitive academic endeavor speaks well of our students and our college.
This is the third year in a row that Walters State debaters have won a tournament. Previous wins were in the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament in 2006 and Little Brown Jug tournament at King College last year. The debate team has won awards in every decade of the school’s existence beginning in 1973.
