Country great Aaron Tippin will headline the first East Tennessee Farm Relief concert, planned for July 25 at the Walters State Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center. The concert is sponsored by WIVK, Ritchie Tractor and Walters State Community College. All proceeds will be used to buy hay for small farmers affected by the area’s drought conditions.
Tippin has sold over five million albums in a career spanning two decades. He is famous for hits like “You’ve Got To Stand for Something,” “For You I Will” and “The Kiss.” In addition to his commercial tours, he travels abroad each year with the USO to entertain American military forces. His latest CD, “Now and Then,” is a collection of new songs and greatest hits. Tippin lives on his family farm in Smith County.
Opening the show will be newcomers Carolina Rain and David Nail. Nail’s debut CD, “I’m About to Come Alive” features five of his own songs and will be released in August. Carolina Rain is an up-and-coming male trio with two hit singles under their belts: “Isn’t She” and “Get Outta My Way.”
Tickets for the event begin at $20 and can be purchased through lakewaytickets.com. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 13.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and will be reserved seating.
More information on the application process for farmers needing assistance will be provided soon by WIVK
